I’ve suffered from type two diabetes for years. I was very overweight for much of my life, and I guess that it just caught up with me over time. I’ve suffered my fair share of health difficulties from the terrible disease; but I guess one of the biggest losses was my ability to achieve an erection.
Diabetes can cause nerve damage, and that resulting nerve damage was what was causing my inability to achieve an erection.
I’ve been a big man for my whole life, but that never dampened my sexual appetites. My wife is a lovely woman and she and I have had some great times in the bedroom. She’s stuck by me through all the twists and turns of my diabetes, and I’m not worried that she’ll ever leave me, but I really regret that my earlier overeating had left me unable to satisfy a lovely woman, who I knew had a very healthy sexual appetite.
I spoke to my doctor about Viagra or Cialis, but he assured me that my impotence was caused by the diabetes and that Viagra would not be able to help me. I told him that I could sometimes seem to get a bit of an erection, but he seemed pretty sure, and I guess he convinced me too. I was really downhearted, as all the publicity that the drugs had been receiving had gotten me really hopeful that they would work for me as well.
I told my wife the news when I got home, and she was supportive as usual, but I could tell that she was as disappointed as I was. Well we just got on with things and although we didn’t exactly forget about it, we stopped talking about our sex life, as it just raised too much hurt.
I receive occasional treatment at a local diabetes specific clinic, and see doctors other than my general physician for specialized management of my diabetes drug regime. As I was waiting for my turn, I struck up a conversation with another fellow sitting next to me (we diabetes sufferers always have something in common!). Well we talked for quite a while, as the clinic was as busy as usual, and you rarely get out of there without a few hours spent waiting around.
After a while he kind of whispered at me, and asked whether I was using Cialis as well. I was surprised, being under the impression that our diabetes made Cialis use impossible, but he told me that although his doctor had said it wouldn’t work, he had insisted, and although his erection wasn’t like it was when he was a young man, it was enough and he was grateful! He suggested that I insist on getting a prescription as well.
So I did. The specialist also said that she didn’t think it would work for me, but after an examination of my symptoms and vitals, said that I was welcome to try it if I wanted too. I assured her that I did, and walked out of the office with a prescription and a bit of hope.
I went to the pharmacist and she asked whether I wanted Cialis or tadalafil? I was a bit confused, but she explained that they were the same drug, but that Cialis was the name brand, and Tadalafil was the generic equivalent. Tadalafil was exactly the same, but was about three times cheaper, and she pretty much implied that I’d be crazy to take the name brand Cialis. I followed her advice and headed out with my tadalafil.
That evening I took my pill a couple of hours before getting ready for bed. I didn’t say anything to my wife, as I didn’t want to get her hopes up if it turned out that I was still unable to perform. After we were in bed, I made my move, and after she responded, I was euphoric to see an erection emerging!
I can’t say that it was as good as it was when I was in my 20’s, but I didn’t care; it was enough, and we were able to make love again for the first time in a long while.
Since that time, I’ve been a steady user of tadalafil, and it has really helped both my wife and I a lot. I would recommend that anyone who has diabetes as I do insist on at least giving it a try. Have your doctor examine you to make sure it’s safe, and if it is, try it. You have nothing to lose but a few dollars on some pills, and what you’ll gain if it works is truly priceless!
